Red Tags - Natural Gas & Propane
I've received a Red Tag on my natural gas or propane equipment. What do I do now?
There are two types of warning tags, known as Red Tags in the HVAC industry:
- Type A: This reflects an immediate hazard, such as a dangerous carbon monoxide leak, and your gas supply will be shut off immediately and Red Tag is forwarded to your Gas or Propane Supplier. Customer must have issue(s) repaired/modified/corrected, performed by a Licensed Gas Technician or HVAC Contractor. Once issue(s) have been remedied, your Technician/Contractor will remove the Red Tag and turn your gas supply back on.
- Type B: This reflects a non-immediate hazard, such as older venting that does not meet Gas Code, and your gas supply will be left on. Type B Red Tags specify a time frame which the Customer must have repairs/modifications/corrections performed by a Licensed Gas Technician/HVAC Contractor. Once issues have been remedied, your Technician/Contractor will remove the Red Tag and turn your gas supply back on. Cleared Red Tags are then sent to your Gas or Propane Supplier.
